The Boston Globe Magazine, together with its partner The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), has announced the annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, recognizing the honorees at a breakfast event at the Marriott Copley Hotel. These 100 organizations generated nearly $50 billion in total revenue last year, demonstrating that women are key drivers of the state’s economy.

This year’s top ten honorees are Boston Medical Center Health System, led by Kate Walsh; Northeast Arc & Affiliates, led by Jo Ann Simons; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, led by Laurie H. Glimcher, MD; Boston Children’s Hospital, led by Sandra L. Fenwick; J.Jill, Inc., led by Linda Heasley; Talbots, led by Lizanne Kindler; University of Massachusetts Lowell, led by Jacqueline Moloney; WilmerHale, led by Susan W. Murley; Mount Auburn Hospital, led by Jeanette G. Clough; and Community Care Cooperative, led by Christina Severin. The full list was published in the Globe Magazine’s Women & Power issue at bostonglobe.com/magazine on October 26 and in print on October 28.

“Together, the organizations they lead have a tremendous impact on the Massachusetts economy, in virtually every sector–healthcare, higher education, retail, technology, financial services, and on and on,”said Globe Magazine editor Veronica Chao. “The Women on this list have often ascended against the odds. They serve as inspiration for all working women who are reaching for success.”

This is the 17th year that TCI – a Boston-based nonprofit that supports female business leaders – has created the list, and the third year that the Globe Magazine has partnered with the group. The Globe Magazine and TCI reviewed both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to revenue or operating budget, factors considered in the evaluation included the number of Massachusetts-based full-time employees, workplace and management diversity, and innovative projects.

“There is no sector where women leaders are not represented in Massachusetts,” said Elizabeth Hailer, executive director of TCI. “Together with the Boston Globe Magazine, we are excited to honor our local women business leaders and hope it inspires other women to strive for success in our region.”
