Annual award highlights female business leaders who are making a significant impact on the state’s economy

The Boston Globe Magazine, together with its partner The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), today announced the annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, recognizing the honorees at a breakfast event at the Seaport Boston Hotel. These 100 organizations generated $70.5 billion in total revenue last year, again demonstrating that women are key drivers of the state’s economy.

This year’s top ten honorees are Brigham and Women’s Health Care, led by Elizabeth G. Nabel, M.D.; Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan, led by Susan Coakley; Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, led in 2015 by Linda K. Zecher; Boston Medical Center, led by Kathleen E. Walsh; Boston Children’s Hospital, led by Sandra L. Fenwick; The TJX Companies, led in 2015 by Carol Meyrowitz; PGR Media, led by Jane Deery; Mount Auburn Hospital, led by Jeanette G. Clough; New England Baptist Hospital, led by Trish Hannon; and Atlas Travel & Technology Group, led by Elaine Osgood.

The full list will be published in the Globe Magazine’s Women & Power issue, and is online at http://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2016/10/27/the-top-women-led-businesses-massachusetts/EiAZLeAuLGduH8CHasyNoI/story.html.

“There is no doubt that female business leaders are key drivers in shaping our state’s economy in all sectors, ranging from hospitals, construction companies, law firms, universities, retailers, travel and transportation companies, to biotech firms,” said Globe Magazine editor Veronica Chao. “It’s a clear indicator of the diversity of achievements by women in this state, and sends an important message to the next generation of female professionals about what is possible.”

Today’s breakfast featured welcoming remarks by Linda Pizzuti Henry, managing director at the Globe, who addressed the honorees, noting the importance of recognizing their impact on our economy and increasing the visibility of female business leaders to ensure that their numbers grow.
