
Liz Walker began her broadcasting career in 1974 as the director of public affairs for KATV in Little Rock, Ark. She later worked as an anchor and reporter at KMGH-TV in Denver and KRON-TV in San Francisco before joining WBZ-TV in Boston in 1980. For nearly 20 years, she anchored WBZ’s evening newscasts before shifting to daytime in 2000 to focus on family. Since 2005, she has been the host and executive producer of Sunday with Liz Walker.
Beyond journalism, Walker has been deeply involved in humanitarian work. In 2001, she traveled to Sudan to investigate the region’s slave trade and has since returned multiple times, including visits to Darfur. Her reporting earned her the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2002, and she later produced the documentary In the Lion’s Mouth.
Committed to community service, Walker co-founded My Sister’s Keeper, supporting Sudanese women’s micro-enterprises, and helped establish the Jane Doe Safety Fund for domestic violence shelters. She also led WBZ-TV’s Stop the Violence campaign and has served on numerous boards, including the Big Sister Association and Boston’s Children’s Museum.
Walker holds a B.A. in Communications from Olivet College and a Master’s in Divinity from Harvard, focusing on religion and women’s issues. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and resides in the Greater Boston area with her son.
