The Commonwealth Institute and The Boston Globe Magazine’s

Top 100 Women-Led Businesses Award Breakfast

October 24th, 2014

7:30 am – 10:00 am – Seaport Hotel, Boston, MA

The Commonwealth Institute (TCI) in partnership with The Boston Globe Magazine, will announce the 13th Annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts on October 24th 2014.

The response to the Top 100 survey was overwhelming and we look forward to announcing a vibrant, wide-ranging list of women leaders. 2014 is particularly exciting because it marks the inaugural year of a more holistic approach in determining the Top 100. Not for profit organizations were included for the first time, and a new ranking criteria was established. Although revenue (or operating budget) and number of employees remain an essential component, TCI and the Globe Magazine also weighed workplace and leadership diversity and innovation. Unlike previous years, revenue or budget figures will not be published.  Past honorees have come from fields ranging from biotechnology to architecture to retail, illustrating the diversity of the women-led companies across the Commonwealth.

Women-owned businesses account for nearly 200,000 firms in Massachusetts and employ more than 175,000 people across the state. This year’s Top 100 Women-Led Businesses generate a combined revenue in excess of $73 billion.

2014’s Top 100 awardees will be honored and celebrated at a breakfast on October 24th from 7:30 – 10:00 am, at the Seaport Hotel in Boston, MA. Typically a sold-out event of over 500 attendees, the breakfast is held in partnership with The Boston Globe Magazine and will be sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Morgan Stanley, Whittier Street Health Center among others.

“Each of the women on our Top 100 list has made a significant impact on the Commonwealth’s economy and has established herself as a visionary leader of a successful company. The Boston Globe has often reported on the accomplishments of the women on this list, and we’re excited to once again partner with the Globe for this fantastic event,” said TCI Executive Director Aileen Gorman.

The Boston Globe Magazine is honored to partner with The Commonwealth Institute and publish the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses survey results. This list is a tribute to the hard-working, successful, and inspirational women running businesses in Massachusetts,” said Susanne Althoff, editor of the Globe Magazine.

The results will be published in the Sunday, October 26th edition of The Boston Globe Magazine. Advance copies of the publication will be available to all who attend the breakfast
